Concept and Development
- Creators: Ansuman Mallik and Atmaj Verma conceptualized the Tata Yu during a six-month project at Strate School of Design in Bengaluru, sponsored by Tata Motors.
- Supervision: The design process was guided by industry experts like Ajay Jain from Tata Motors, Edmund Spitz (HOD of Transportation Design at Strate School), and Thomas Dal (Dean at Strate School)1.
Design Features
- Dual Functionality: The vehicle is split into two main sections: a central part for e-commerce parcel storage and a rear part for passenger transport.
- Automated Sorting: It can automatically sort parcels based on their delivery destination, enhancing efficiency for effective and fast delivery.
Delivery Methods
- Automated Transfer System: Parcels can be directly deposited into an automated system, referred to as a ‘bridge,’ which could be implemented in Corporate offices and housing complexes and Big Malls.
- Gig Workers: Alternatively, gig workers can accept delivery offers through an app, pick up parcels from the van at specified stops, and deliver them to their destinations.
Passenger Transport
- Ride-Hailing Service: Similar to services like Uber or Rapido, passengers can enter their destination on an app and hop on if a van is going in the same direction. Payments are made through the app from mobile.
- Capacity: The vehicle can accommodate two passengers at a time.
Specifications and Future Plans
- Dimensions: The prototype is 3,700mm long, 1,500mm wide, and 1,800mm tall.
- Commercial Availability: Expected to be available by 2030 or later stated by experts.
